I will guide students with certain classroom procedures and help create student generated expectations for an optimum learning environment. I will direct students in experiences to prepare them for taking on the responsibility for the flow of the day and maintaining a positive, safe, and inclusive environment in which to learn. This gradual release of the classroom to the students will take time and only happen after a certain amount of trust and mutual respect is developed. I believe students need to be allowed to struggle in order to learn both academically and in a social emotional context and need to learn from the consequences of their actions. I will teach strategies for academic learning, interpersonal communication, and conflict resolution to give them supports in navigating their community of learners.
